1884-2024. 140 ANNI DOPO...IL PRIMO CAMPIONATO ITALIANO DI CICLISMO

On the occasion of the departure of the 107th Giro d’Italia from the Reggia di Venaria, from Saturday 4 May it is possible to visit in the atrium of the Scuderie Juvarriane a small exhibition that recounts the First Italian Championship in the history of cycling, which took place 140 years ago in Turin, as part of the Collateral Festivities of the Italian General Exhibition. It was 1884 and the race saw velocipedist athletes engaged in the first races of a national character.

It was Giuseppe Loretz the first national champion in the history of road cycling, who won the gilded bronze cup offered by His Royal Highness Prince Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta and which the public can see on display together with posters and photos of the time.
