CAPA IN COLOR

For the first time in Italia, in the Sale Chiablese, the Royal Museums of Torino present a collection of over 150 colour images by Robert Capa (1913-1954), the famous Hungarian naturalized American photographer who in 1947 founded the Magnum Photos Agency together with Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, David Seymour and William Vandiver.
Ideated by Cynthia Young, curator of the collection at the International Centre of Photography in New York, the exhibition “Capa in Color” illustrates his particular approach to new technological means, highlighting his extraordinary ability to integrate the use of color in reportages made between 1941 and 1954, the year of his death.
Known above all for his legendary shots in black and white, capable of telling some of the bloodiest conflicts in history in a skilful and gripping way (the Second World War, but also the Spanish Civil War, the second Sino-Japanese war in ‘38 , the clashes between Israel and Palestine ten years later and the first war in Indochina in ‘54), Capa’s work is here rediscovered thanks to a rich palette applied to film.
