ZTL and Traffic Systems

Aiming to improve the quality of life and also to guarantee free-flowing public transport, various ZTL  – Limited Traffic Areas – have been introduced for regulating congestion with the help of CCTV cameras. The Central ZTL area is closed to traffic from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 10.30am, including some pedestrian streets and others reserved to public transport for the entire day, as shown by the street signs.

Details about the various ZTL zones, which cover different areas and impose differing limitations, can be found on Turin Municipality's website. Tourists travelling with their own cars, who are booked into a central hotel, can enter the ZTL on arrival and leave by the same route even during the prohibited hours – they only have to fill in the appropriate form at the hotel reception desk.

The whole city centre and surrounding areas also form part of the Blue Zone where cars can be parked with payment at various hourly costs depending on the area. Payments can be made to parking meters or to authorised retailers (bars, tobacconists, newsagents).
