The exhibition aims to emphasise the centrality of the theme of photography and the extraordinary collecting history that GAM can boast in this field. The exhibition traces the Italian history of photography dedicated to art through a number of loans from the GAM collections: from the earliest nineteenth-century documentations of the architectural landscape to Armin Linke’s shots dedicated to the Teatro Regio, from Ghirri’s images in which the spectator’s gaze is caught between the photographic lens and works of art to those of Mulas, up to the work of Gianfranco Gorgoni, where artwork and horizon merge into a single meaningful landscape.
