It will be a very special Tuesday. Mark this date:
2 July 2024. We look forward to seeing you in
Sestriere for a grandiose stage of the
Tour de France.
As is well known, the most important stage race in the world will start in Italy, with the
Florence - Rimini (29 June), followed by the
Cesenatico - Bologna (30 June) and the
Piacenza - Torino (1 July).
On Tuesday, 2 July, the Tour de France proposes the first Alpine stage with the
Pinerolo-Valloire: departure from the city of chivalry and first climb of the Tour at the 2035 metres of altitude of the Colle del Sestriere, followed by Montgenèvre, Galibier and the finish in Valloire.
The riders will pass the Colle del Sestriere in front of the monument dedicated to
Fausto Coppi, the "Campionissimo" who signed the success in the epic stage of 1952, the Le Bourg-d’Oisans - Sestriere, a stage that saw Sestriere enter the finish line of the race in yellow for the first time.
Forty years later, in 1992 another Italian set his seal on Sestriere:
Claudio Chiappucci won the 13th stage Saint-Gervais-les-Bains - Sestriere. Sestriere also hosted the stage finish of the Tour de France in 1996, when
Bjarne Riis won, and in 1999, when
Lance Armstrong was the first to cross the finish line. The last passage of the Tour de France in Sestriere dates back to 2011 with the Gap-Pinerolo that was won by Norwegian
Edvald Boasson Hagen.
