The Unesco recognition of “Ivrea industrial city of the XX century” as World Heritage Site acknowledges an alternative model of community: in the process of modernization started after World War II in Italia, culture is valued as an instrument to for citizens to participate in the construction of a renewed vision of community.
In Ivrea Italia’s information technology was born, from ELEA 9003 and Program 101 (the first personal computer in the world) to Arduino and Processing. The architectural and urban culture is an integral and innovative part of the actions that contribute to make Ivrea a city-laboratory and are traces of this experience. Ivrea is the perfect city to host events and initiatives to discuss aims, risks, use/misuse of information technology applied to the processes of design in architecture, product and graphic design. With the Festival of Architecture 2020 - from 18 to 27 September - Ivrea will showcase culture, architecture, design, technological and social innovation: lectures and conferences, workshops and courses, installations, exhibitions, fairs, but also actions of participatory urban regeneration and exploration within the World Heritage site. Here are the topics:

• workshops: digital experience at the service of art, design and product design
• walk: reading Olivetti’s creative thought while becoming immersed in the architecture
• action: urban regeneration with participatory actions of street art and much more
• talk: conferences, lectures, on architecture, restoration and urban planning
• exhibit: exhibitions of a past that looks to the future

The events honour Adriano Olivetti sixty years after his death, what he was, and what he still represents for the community of Ivrea and for the important legacy he left.
