KONRAD MÄGI - LA LUCE DEL NORD

This event has expired

Open to visitors in the Chiablese Hall of the Musei Reali di Torino from 30 November 2019-8 March 2020 will be the exhibition Konrad Mägi: The Light of the North, dedicated to the Estonian artist known for his extraordinary power of expression, rendered above all in light and colour. Mägi is considered the father of modern Estonian painting and is often compared to such artists as Vincent Van Gogh and Alfred Sisley, in common with whom he displays an audacious use of colourful material and luminous effects.

The exhibition, curated by art historian Eero Epner in cooperation with the Musei Reali, has been timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Mägi’s time in Italy and, with his other 50 works (landscapes, portraits and sketches), will comprise one of the biggest solo exhibitions ever mounted in Europe. The works being displayed are from the collections of the Art Museum of Estonia and Tartu Art Museum, the private collections of Enn Kunila and Peeter Värnik and the collection of the Estonian Students Society.
