Beginning in 1970, in the midst of the Cold War, the Federal Republic of Germany welcomed the “brothers” who succeeded in passing the iron curtain carrying a gift, a small sum of welcome money, the Begrüßungsgeld, corresponding to 100 marks that were initially handed over in instalments and then given in a single payment.
Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall the project “
100DM - In line for a dream” aims to investigate the new value attributed to money by the East Germans starting from the Begrüßungsgeld, through the stories of the protagonists of that fundamental historical moment.
