The exhibition presents 45 photographs by Piero Girardi (Torino, 1882-1964), medical pathologist at the Ospedale Maggiore San Giovanni Battista Molinette in Torino and professor of medical pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, passionate about mountaineering and photography. In summer he used to spend his holidays in Forno Alpi Graie, where his family originally came from. The chosen photographs, taken in the 1920s and 1930s of the last century, aim to define the relationship that “’l Professor” (as he was called in the town) had with the people and places of the Grande Valley of Lanzo and specifically with Forno Alpi Graie: Girardi’s shots served his knowledge in capturing those significant passages related to his mountaineering expertise, or his relationship with the valley community. The emblematic image of the exhibition is “On the path to home”, a mountain landscape with a figure portrayed labouring: here the beauty of the landscape is in contrast with the harshness and sacrifices of mountain life, almost like a possible daily consolation.
