Italia ‘90: the new decade begins with the world soccer championship. In the stadiums of twelve cities the notes of “Un’estate italiana” by Edoardo Bennato and Gianna Nannini can be heard. The song is about the rules of the game, adventures and goals (the “blue” goals by Totò Schillaci). The “anthem” changes its title and it becomes “magic nights” for everyone. The national team finishes third and the trophy goes to West Germany, which a few months later - October 3 - simply became Germany thanks to the historic unification with the GDR: the fall of the Berlin Wall inaugurated the decade that came to an end tragically with the collapse of the Twin Towers in New York in 2001. The exhibition intends to be a survey of the themes and languages of Italian art of the 1990s: it speaks of emptiness and fullness, of lightness and weight, of spaces and places - the abstract, imagined, ordered ones and those broken up by subjectivity, relationships, identity.
