The
circular twisting machine (faithfully reconstructed in the Filatoio di Caraglio and the only one existing in the world) greatly impressed Leonardo when he first saw it in Firenze and then in Milano: many of his drawings represent its movements, with incredible variations; few of these ideas then spread, but at the time some had a considerable productive impact.
The exhibition includes a
virtual animation of these: for example, the “zetto” of the twisters (the back and forth movement of the thread), which allowed to improve the twisting of the thread making it more uniform, doubling the production in the same amount of time and halving the employees of each machine.
