The
Polo Museale (Museum Center) was revived in 2016, after long periods of renovation, and it is still growing ... It includes the
Textile Manufacturing Museum,
Knight Modesto Sandretto’s collection of machine tools and the
Museum of Plastic.
The idea of a
Museum of Plastic came to Gilberto Sandretto, a local industrialist who builds presses for the processing of plastics, when, in 1985, he became passionate about the history of the "material that Nature had forgotten to create" and began to collect different types of objects.
Today the collection has more than
2500 pieces, exhibited in 8 rooms of a beautiful Liberty-style building surrounded by a small park. They range from the 1880 toy boat to the most modern objects, those that we have at home or that we still use. A journey through the history of plastic, but also through the
industrial history of Pont Canavese, given that next to the
"Civilization of Plastic - Cannon Sandretto Collection" museum there is also another small museum that tells the story of Textile Manufacturing, which flourished during of the nineteenth century and closed down only in 1966.
