Palazzo Santa Chiara is a vast building that has housed the Town Hall since 1800. The palace was built between 1739 and the second half of the 18th century by Jesuit Father Antonio Falletti di Barolo as a convent for the Observant Poor Clare Nuns. However, the project, which was too expensive, remained unfinished: the current façade of the palace, adorned with an interesting sundial that was recently restored, is nothing more than a sleeve of the convent cloister, which was never finished. The interior houses a Contemporary Art Gallery of 19th- and 20th-century Chivassese authors; on the ground floor is the picturesque Teatrino Civico, which in 1864, designed by engineer Fausto Gozzano (amateur actor and father of the famous poet Guido), was obtained from the convent’s inner chapel.
