The museum of mountain life in Val Cenischia is dedicated to the reconstruction of a "house of time gone by". Past time and domestic life come back to life in the form of objects and utensils of daily life, to witness, today, traditions and culture of the past that would otherwise be lost.
The museum collection, which began in 1972 with the commitment of the whole Novalesa community and thanks to the idea of Professor Giuseppe Ferrero and a group of enthusiasts of village traditions, is now set up in the rooms that once housed the guardhouse of the village, the Congregation room, the school and the accommodation for the teacher, not far from the municipal prisons and right opposite the two extinct hotels of the municipality, "L’Epée royal" and "L’ecu de France". Novalesa, since the Middle Ages, has in fact been an important stopover and passageway along the Via Francigena, crossed by pilgrims bound for Rome or, vice versa, for France. The Museum allows you to retrace this history and to relive the life of our ancestors by rediscovering everyday objects.
Guided tours are available for groups upon reservation.
