The ancient Guidobono Cavalchini Castle was built by Umberto III the Blessed of Savoy around 1171. During the 13th century, it was largely destroyed by the Torinese, who were in conflict with Tommaso of Savoy, and was rebuilt at the end of the century by William VII of Monferrato. The Castle with the fiefdom of Collegno belonged to the branch of the Princes of Acaja of the House of Savoy, Counts of Collegno, until its extinction. Charles Emmanuel I Duke of Savoy then (1599) granted the fiefdom to Giovanni Francesco Provana di Carignano, the first Count Provana di Collegno.
