Although the legend traces its foundation to Charlemagne, the first document in which the
Ecclesia of Santa Maria di Vezzolano is mentioned dates back to 1095: it was the investiture of Teodulo and Egidio as officiales, with the commitment to adhere to some shared precepts and to live according to the canonical rule, probably that of St. Augustine, later attested in Vezzolano by papal seals of 1176 and 1182. In 1937 the complex was sold to the State and handed over to the Superintendence of Architectural Heritage.

Visitors will be subjected to a temperature control at the entrance, will have to wear a mask and for the duration of their visit, they must maintain the interpersonal distance of at least m. 1.50. Free visits in groups of max 10 people departing every 30 minutes.
