In 1619 Duke Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy donated the castle of Riva to his favorite, Margherita de Roussillone and Chatelard, with the title of “marchioness”. The building has undergone numerous renovations since 1734, when it passed to the
Grosso di Brozolo counts. The latter entrusted the reconstruction to the architect Bernardo Antonio Vittone in 1738. The up-to-date taste of the clients and the skilled technique of the artists make the decorations of Palazzo Grosso
a unique cycle of its kind. Among the decorated rooms there is the atrium whose pictorial trompe - l’oeil decoration - transforms the entire hallway into a gallery full of archaeological works fixed to metal clamps on the fake hewn wall.
It is the seat of the Civico Museo del Paesaggio Sonoro (Civic Museum of Soundscape).
