A farm for the king.
It was Charles Albert who first realised the agricultural potential of Pollenzo, creating a proper farm with vineyards and wine cellars, where the wine-making techniques experimented at the time are now still in use for the grand reds of the Langhe district.
Charles Albert also had the romantic vision of remodelling the entire medieval Pollenzo, engaging Xavier Kurten to design the gardens and creating the new neo-gothic image of the hamlet which includes the piazza, the church, the tower and the "Albertina Farmhouse".
The complex has continued to retain its original link with agriculture: promoted by Slow Food, it now houses the University of Gastronomic Sciences, the Bank of Wine and the hotel of the Agenzia di Pollenzo.
